Everyday Google make changes to its algorithm to improve SERP but most of them aren’t noticeable. This is the reason why we are giving you a quick update on all the major changes and timeline, which have been announced in the month of November and December.

#1 Changes to Mobile First Indexing Timeline

Google started working on mobile-first indexing some six years ago. Since then, Google switched to indexing the majority of web pages with Googlebot-Smartphone. Google planned to complete mobile-first indexing by March 2021. However, there are still many websites not ready to shift to mobile first due to some complicated reasons. Hence, Google has left the Mobile First indexing timeline open for now.

#2 Rollout – Page experience ranking to desktop

In November 2020, Google announced that the page experience ranking change will go live on Google Search in 2021. However, it has now moved to roll out in February 2022.

The Page Experience report offers valuable metrics, such as the percentage of URLs with good page experience and search impressions over time, enabling you to quickly evaluate performance. #3 Product reviews update

This particular update is targeted towards affiliate websites which post product reviews. Back in April 2021, Google shared a product reviews update that was designed to promote high quality product reviews. Google is now rolling out a new update, the first major update since April, that may change how your product reviews rank in search results.

Google has been working to analyze what type of review content is considered trustworthy and useful. Two main factors make product reviews more authentic:

  1. Evidence of products actually being tested
  2. More options to purchase the product.

Therefore Google has introduced two new best practices for product reviews, to take effect in a future update.

  • Provide evidence such as visuals, audio, or other links of your own experience with the product, to support your expertise and reinforce the authenticity of your review.
  • Include links to multiple sellers to give the reader the option to purchase from their merchant of choice.
